ICBA and PrimeSouth Bank Provides Tips for
Preventing Elder Financial Abuse

June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
Washington, D.C. (June 09, 2015)– June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and the Independent Community Bankers of America® (ICBA), the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation (SHCPF) and PrimeSouth Bank are providing tips for preventing the disturbing trend of elder financial abuse.
“Community bankers serve a vital role in protecting members of our communities, including the elderly who are all too often targets of financial abuse,” said ICBA Chairman Jack Hartings, president and CEO of The Peoples Bank Co., in Coldwater, Ohio. “It’s important for all Americans to be aware of this very real issue and learn about ways to help prevent elder financial abuse from happening. If you have questions or concerns about the safety and security of your finances, you should speak to your local community banker immediately.”
ICBA, SHCPF and PrimeSouth Bank offer the following suggestions on ways to prevent elder financial abuse:
• Secure all of your valuables in a bank safe deposit box. These valuables can include your Social Security card, passports, credit card account numbers, will and other legal documents, financial statements and medical records.
• Do not give financial information to callers who contact you and claim to be from established organizations such as your bank or credit card companies, especially if they ask you to wire funds or send them private information. If you are concerned about your bank account, contact your local community bank directly.
• Check your bank accounts and bill statements carefully. If you notice unauthorized charges, alert your bank immediately.
• Do not give your personal information, such as bank account numbers or PINs, to anyone in a phone call, letter, email, fax or text message.
• Have enough money set aside to support yourself and your immediate family for at least six months in case of an emergency. Your local community banker can help create a financial roadmap for you and your family.
“Elder financial abuse and scamming techniques are at epidemic proportions across our country. SHCPF is dedicated to providing educational resources to help our nation’s seniors and their family members on ways to protect themselves against financial exploitation,” said Edward J. Gentry, chairman, president and CEO of the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation. “We are encouraging every community banker to spread the word on ways to prevent elder financial abuse and exploitation to every senior citizen and their adult family members.”
“Keeping our customers’ information safe and preventing any type of financial abuse is a top priority,” said Lauryn Beckham, Vice President, PrimeSouth Bank. “PrimeSouth Bank can address any questions or concerns you might have in regards to preventing elder financial abuse, whether it is for you or a family member. Please feel free to contact us at 334-387-1655 or with any questions.”

About The Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation (SHCPF)
The Foundation serves as a way for banks to earn CRA credit in the form of CRA-qualified loans, investments or grants through the operation of the nationally acclaimed Senior Crimestopper’s program. Funded exclusively by the banking industry, this program provides safe, secure and improved quality of life living environments in low and moderate income senior housing facilities, HUD communities and our nation’s Veterans homes. Banks enjoy guaranteed CRA credit, no administrative burden, installation of a turn-key program, and positive public relations exposure in their communities.
Not only does the Foundation impact the lives of the elderly, we also impact the community outside of the long-term care industry through the CRA-qualified securities we purchase on behalf of our bank partners. As March 31, 2015 the community impact has reached approximately $134 Million which goes to provide affordable home mortgages for low-to-moderate income families, affordable healthcare services, small business development providing job creation, as well as other economic development projects.
Senior Crimestoppers is a multi-faceted program that protects the elderly from theft, abuse, neglect and financial exploitation, and is administered by the Foundation who is endorsed by the ICBA, the ABA, and strong relationships with 43 bankers associations. For more information about the Foundation, visit or call 877-232-0859. For more information about the program, visit or call 800-529-9096.

Debit Card Fraud Update

Thursday, October 16, 2014

As you all know, our Tallassee community has been hit with a large amount of debit/credit card fraud over the past several days. We have spoken with many of our customers already but wanted to provide a general update.

First of all, our customers have been wonderful this week – thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this. Although the criminal activity is not isolated to PrimeSouth, we are absorbing the losses that our customers incurred due to positively identified fraudulent charges.

Due to the volume of fraudulent activity, we were forced to block certain transaction types and geographic locations for all cards while we worked to isolate the cards that were most likely affected.  We are working to unblock safe cards and also have decided to proactively re-issue cards to all customers who we determined were potentially at risk, most of those being Tallassee customers.  If your card will be re-issued you can still use PIN and ATM transactions until the new card arrives.

If your card is being re-issued, you should receive a letter in the next couple days. However, if you would like to check the status of your card, please send a secure email to or call one of our local offices.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

PrimeSouth Bank's "Make an Impact" Project Does That and More

Thursday, April 03, 2014

(Tallassee, AL) – PrimeSouth Bank employees were issued a challenge in November, 2013, by their chief executive officer Dave Baggett to “make an impact” in the communities they serve. The only rules of the company-wide contest were to work as a team and use the $250 seed money given to each team by the bank as a start to make a difference for community organizations of their choice in Tallapoosa, Elmore and/or Montgomery Counties.

The four teams chose varying organizations to serve during the two month contest, but the outcome for each was the same – they each saw a difference being made in the community by their service work.

One of the teams worked with the Elmore County Food Pantry in several different ways. They volunteered time at the pantry and also collected food and monetary donations. Their efforts resulted in raising an amount that would be enough food to feed 168 families.

“Many, many thanks to PrimeSouth Bank for collecting donations that furnished approximately 13,500 pounds of food,” said Board Pantry Board President Larry Dozier. “Thank you, PrimeSouth Bank for helping the Elmore County Food Pantry continue changing peoples lives.”

The remaining teams made a difference in the community through other worthwhile efforts such as hosting a program to honor local veterans, aiding local needy families and shelters and raising funds for abused children.

In all, PrimeSouth Bank employees gave nearly 60 hours of time, touched 750 lives in the community and gave a total of $5,600 to the organizations they served.

“I could not be more pleased with the efforts given by our employees during what started out to be a company contest.  The impact not only touched lives in our community, but was felt by our employees as well,” Baggett said. “We are going to continue our efforts and build off this project going forward. I can’t wait to see what our employees do next.”

PrimeSouth Bank is a locally-owned bank and has locations in Wetumpka, Tallassee and Pike Road, Alabama. To learn more about the bank, please visit www. or call (334) 283-6594.
