As you all know, our Tallassee community has been hit with a large amount of debit/credit card fraud over the past several days. We have spoken with many of our customers already but wanted to provide a general update.
First of all, our customers have been wonderful this week – thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this. Although the criminal activity is not isolated to PrimeSouth, we are absorbing the losses that our customers incurred due to positively identified fraudulent charges.
Due to the volume of fraudulent activity, we were forced to block certain transaction types and geographic locations for all cards while we worked to isolate the cards that were most likely affected. We are working to unblock safe cards and also have decided to proactively re-issue cards to all customers who we determined were potentially at risk, most of those being Tallassee customers. If your card will be re-issued you can still use PIN and ATM transactions until the new card arrives.
If your card is being re-issued, you should receive a letter in the next couple days. However, if you would like to check the status of your card, please send a secure email to email@example.com or call one of our local offices.
